Dr. Andrew S. Nevin, PhD, a visionary leader and Founding Director of The African Institute of Leadership & Public Administration. With over 34 years of global experience at the nexus of economics, strategy, capital markets, and investment, Dr. Nevin has emerged as a thought leader and facilitator of leadership development programs for C-level executives in Fortune 500 companies.

Driven by a passion for real change and societal contribution, Dr. Nevin embarked on a transformative journey in Lagos, Nigeria, since early 2012, playing pivotal roles to advance Nigeria’s and West Africa’s economy. His advocacy for changes that unlock Nigeria’s vast human and economic potential has garnered attention, with features in esteemed publications such as the Financial Times, The Economist, Bloomberg, Forbes, and Newsweek. 

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Nevin has brought his expertise to Asia, North America, and Europe.Simultaneously contributing to inclusive and sustainable economic development, Dr. Nevin has been 

working on a groundbreaking concept—shifting the lens for progress in Canada from a GDP lens to a Flourishing lens. His forthcoming book, co-authored with Dr. Elizabeth Neill, aims to launch this transformative concept in Canada.

As a Research Professor and the Inaugural Director of the Brainomics Venture at the Center for BrainHealth, University of Texas at Dallas, Dr. Nevin is at the forefront of exploring the intersection of human flourishing, brain health, and individual agency. 

His focus on the economics of brain health extends to practical strategies for enhancing brain health at individual, organizational, and global levels.

The concept of Flourishing aligns seamlessly with Dr. Nevin’s pursuits, as demonstrated in his recent publication, “Flourishing in Canada: How to Get the Good Life.” This work advocates for a shift from a GDP lens to a Flourishing lens in forming public policy, a perspective that emerged from reflections on the economic challenges post the Great Financial Crisis of 2008.

Before his academic role, Dr. Nevin played a crucial role as Advisory Partner and Chief Economist at PwC Nigeria, championing the potential of Nigeria’s youth. With a rich private sector background as an entrepreneur, private equity investor, line manager, economist, and strategy consultant, Dr. Nevin’s journey started at McKinsey & Company, where he served in Toronto & Paris. He later spent a decade in China, including a role as President of United Family Hospitals, China’s leading international hospital chain, during the SARS crisis.

Dr. Nevin’s academic journey is marked by significant accomplishments, holding a PhD in Economics from Harvard University, an MA in Philosophy & Politics from Balliol College, Oxford University (Rhodes Scholar), and a BSc (Hon) in Computer Science & Mathematics from Western University, Canada. Dr Andrew holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University, an MA in Philosophy and Politics from Balliol College, Oxford University (where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar and scored 2 goals in the 100th anniversary Blues ice hockey match vs. Cambridge), and a BSc (Hon) in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
